Grill Temperature Sensor Issues

Temperature Offset

The temperature shown on the controller screen comes from the grill temperature sensor, with a software offset applied to best match the average temperature at the grill rack.

It is normal for the actual temperature at the rack to vary from what is displayed. Expect about 5–10 °C (9–18 °F) difference at lower cooking temperatures, and up to 20°C (36 °F) or more at higher temperatures, especially while the grill is still heating and the fire is strong.

If you consistently see the controller display reading higher or lower than the average temperature in the middle of the grill rack (using food probes), you can use the Grill Temperature Offset function in the controller to adjust it, as shown below.

Example:

  • Average grill rack temperature = 100℃
  • Displayed grill temperature = 90℃
  • Offset +10℃

Note that the temperature offset applies across all temperature settings, so it may result in a low/high that actual temperature when the grill is cold and first heating up.

Error 21

If the grill temperature sensor has failed, or is not connected (plugged in) well, Error 21 will be displayed and the grill will shut down. If this occurs a food probe (P1 or P2) can temporarily be used in its place.

Using this alternative temperature sensor is also useful if the temperature sensor is giving strange reading (very high) but Error 21 hasn’t actually occurred.

Food Probe Location

Position the food probe temperature sensor down beside the grill temperature sensor (half way down the cage)

Controller Setting

On the controller with the grill awake but not operating, navigate to:

MENU -> SETTINGS -> Grill Temperature Probe –> Probe 1

Don’t forget to change back to Grill once the temperature sensor has been replaced.

Trimal App Setting

The setting can also be changed on the App, and can be done whilst the grill is operating (unlike on the controller). The food probe must be plugged in otherwise an temperature sensor error will occur.

Get Replacement Grill Temp Sensor

If the grill temperature sensor has failed, or is giving bad (normally high) readings a new one can be provided during the 3 year warranty period. Please send us a support request.
